As I sat in my first year dormitory of law students, I had my one of my first realizations that the law had some but not a lot of my people. And I would discover as time progressed that those who were my people would end up taking unusual paths in the law as opposed to the standard big city, big firm path that most Ivy-league lawyers gravitate towards. Money. Money. Money.

I discovered more of my people when I was in the prosecutor’s office in Philadelphia (justice minded) and less of my people at Foley & Lardner, a huge international law firm where I worked in its Washington, DC office (money-status).

I found my people when I started my company – The Learning Consultants – and could choose who worked with me.

To be clear, people are… well… people and there will always be some misfits, as I discovered with a now departed director in one of our offices who proved to be highly deceptive. But for the most part, I am working with educator-idealists. Those are my people. That validates one of the reasons why my current path is a fit and why my former path was not a fit.
