Leo Tolstoy, the great Russian author, wrote a brilliant short story: The Three Questions centering upon:

  • What was the right time for every action?
  • Who were the most necessary people?
  • What was the most important thing to do?

In relation to your career, when is the right time for career changing action?  For Tolstoy and most any wise person, the best time to take life enhancing action is NOW.

The story came to my mind because of a friend of mine who was reading the children’s version of the story to his child’s class. He realized that he had been mulling over career change for a dozen years. He had never taken any real action.  The time was never quite right.

Or so he thought. The time is not quite for him now either. He realized that there will never be an optimal time except for NOW.
