After meeting with Career Counseling Connecticut and coming up with a career vision, my career counseling clients don’t simply quit their jobs. Instead, over a period of time – for some 3 months, for some a year or more – the career changer plans the move, sometimes with further career coaching and sometimes without. When they finally change careers, they have their plans in order and do not feel that they are taking a big risk. Most are simply excited to finally – FINALLY!!! – be doing something they love. I sometimes tell clients to imagine if their lives were being filmed. You are the main character of your movie. There are a lot of ways that you could write the movie. But I’m sure that doing the same dull or uninspiring job year after year would not be one of them. What stops most people from moving forward?

Accountability.  Most people who are stuck in careers have fleeting thoughts about shifting careers – often around the New Year! – but those thoughts get lost in the day to day drudgery and stress of their jobs and lives.  As several of our recent clients have noted, the next meeting provides accountability which compels them to move forward.

Customized strategy.  Most clients have vague notions of how to change jobs/careers.  We provide customized strategies.

Inspiration: As one of our clients recently said after a meeting – “I’m fired up and ready to go!”

Sometimes that’s all it takes.

Make 2023 the year of career change.
