We will help you find a great job by helping you define a great career

“I thought it would easy to find a job.”  I’ve heard that phrase a dozen times during the last few months.  The Pandemic has led to the Great Resignation.  This has led to a record number of job openings.  It should be easy! Right?

Wrong!

A large chunk of those job openings are in sectors: retail, restaurants, hotels, and other areas with customer service jobs that many college educated Connecticut residents do not want.

So many of Career Counseling Connecticut’s new clients are surprised that they have had a hard time finding a job.

If you are looking for “a job”, you are not going to get hired.

Employers seek to hire people who fit particular jobs and who are on specific career paths.

Some recent examples of job searches from my career counseling clients will illustrate the point. An unemployed but well credentialed thirtysomething year old man from Fairfield, CT was surprised that he was not getting calls or interviews.  I was not, after we discussed his interest in “getting a regular job in an office.”

Another career counseling client was surprised that her efforts to “get hired anywhere” were not paying off. “I’ve handed my resume to dozens of friends/acquaintances in person.  I’ve sent nearly a thousand applications for different jobs.  When I reviewed her resume, I could see the problem clearly.  She was in her 40s and had a hodgepodge of different jobs throughout her career.  From her resume, I had no idea what type of job “fit” her and I’m sure few employers would either.

We help our career counseling clients find careers, rather than “jobs”.  In doing so, the job search process becomes so much easier.
