Parents of recent college graduates are celebrating.  But many are doing so with an asterisk, a qualifier that goes something like: “We’re happy that Kyle graduated.  Now he has to find a job.”

Most parents know that their child is not happy about the situation either.  But in their stress, many say unhelpful comments: “have you been looking at the want ads?” Or snap: “don’t think you’ll live here rent free.”  Inevitably, the parent-child relationship gets frayed.

Career Counseling Connecticut has a giant advantage when it comes to helping students. We are not “the parents.”  Some of our advice might be quite similar to what is given by wise, career-savvy parents.  But the edge is removed since there is no sense that any judgment is being made.
