“My life is my message.” Mahatma Gandhi.

About 16 years ago, I met Ruma through a friend of a friend.  She was a young, striving, go-getter who wanted to get into the education space.  On her drives from Boston to New York, she would stop in Connecticut periodically to meet with me since I was an education-entrepreneur. “I want my life to be about educating others…” Ruma would say. But at the time, she was a young executive in the high-end fashion industry.  Her Connecticut trips would became less frequent as she rode up the corporate ladder but she would come by every few years to update me on her career and her interest in the education industry.  She would continually express her deep passion for education and how she wanted to be an educator.  Yet, she was still in the fashion industry.

At some point, I directly told Ruma that it was hard to take her seriously anymore because it had been 8 years since we met.  Unless she moved into the education space soon, her life would not be about educating others.

What does your career tell others about you?
