I’m a bit too old to use a hipster word but I’ve recently worked with several twentysomethings who used “meh” when describing their current job.

I fully know that those who find Career Counseling Connecticut usually find us after they have been suffering for a while.

The most common comment we receive is “I should have come here earlier.”  Most people suffer before getting help.  And some seek help only when in misery.

Why wait?

Human nature, being what it is, most would rather deal with the certain career “meh” – which I gather is not good but not so bad that you feel you must do something to change your career than the uncertainty of career change.

There is a big difference between career planning and career change.

Planning includes brainstorming – even fever dreaming (another new term for me!) – crafting potential visions, making the visions realistic, planning the first steps, contemplating when to take the next steps, and then finally deciding to do so.

After years of running Career Counseling Connecticut, I am certain that most everyone would rather be engaged in planning when they are in a reasonably good state.  Planning when highly anxious/semi-depressed comes from a place of either fear or defeatism.  You would rather plan when you “meh” than you are miserable.
