Career Counseling Connecticut was started with a distinct mission: help people find work that makes them feel happy and successful.

I started the company prior to The Great Recession of 2008. During the relatively good economic times, I saw that many of my young clients from The Learning Consultants, the parent company of Career Counseling Connecticut, having matriculated to or graduated from college, were suffering as they tried to figure out what they wanted to do when they grew up.

I also thought it odd that their parents had invested enormous sums of money into their children’s education, including tutoring from The Learning Consultants, but had invested nothing or next to nothing in helping their children figure out what they were going to do with their education.

To be clear, for some, like those majoring in a discipline (accounting/pre-med) that essentially was the start of a career path, the investment was one and the same. But most parents mistakenly conflated the decision to invest in their children’s education as an investment in their career path. The two are not the same for almost every liberal arts and, even most every general business majors.

So, if you are a parent of a college student or twentysomething, why should you invest in Career Counseling Connecticut. One, if at some point, you paid for tutoring in algebra II or some other subject that proved to be irrelevant related to your child’s career path, then the investment of a few dollars into career advisory services seems like an easy comparative decision. Two, what I call the New World of Work, is so confusing – perhaps even more so for parents of twentysomethings – that young adults have few credible career advisors and three, unfortunately, they are facing the most the combination of a crazy new work world and the aftermath of the Coronavirus crisis.
